Planning of a log sauna
This weekend I went to see my parents. During the weekend, the old man and I, we planned our coming log home project. This summer, we are going to build a small log house that will function as a sauna. The place is set, and licenses are ready, now we still need to agree on details and some additional materials.
Dad wants to extend the log home, but I would prefer it to stay small, just as it has been drawn in the blueprints. From his point of view, this is the way to extend washing quarters and make way for more dry inside area. This new space would be a kitchen or possibly a kitchen and one bedroom.
I would like the sauna to be sauna and build another log home if needed (sure it is). This way we could capsulate those possible water and moisture problems to a separate building. If we follow original plans, we wouldn’t have to get some extra supplies and there wouldn’t be need for extra work in form of log structure modifications. Moreover, what do you do with a kitchen that holds a sink and couple of kitchen cabinets, and what about that bedroom, which has space for single person bed.
Small modifications to existing plans will become much cheaper than construction two separate buildings, especially when that other building would be large log home. Anyway, we will battle it out and I’ll tell you how it turns out. We need to make the decisions soon, because we will start building on 12th of July. Either way, world is not ready yet, so there is plenty of building to be done.
Note to self - designing log home bathroom is an excellent article topic.
